ED AND TARA NICOL
HONEYSUCKLE HILL MOUNTAIN HORSES
Ed was farm raised in the small rural community of Carlisle, Indiana, which was one of the first settlements in the state established by the French in 1815.

Ed had a few good cutting horses around in his youth for working the cattle his father brought in from out west and he even had a white Circus horse that was left behind when the Circus left town.  He joined the Air Force during the Viet Nam conflict.   Ed now works for Crane Naval Base at the Glendora Lake Test Facility.  He still resides in Carlisle along with his wife, Tara, where they have a small farm and raise Rocky Mountain and Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horses.

Tara was raised in the suburbs of Indianapolis where she had always wanted to live on a farm and have horses.  At the age of eight she was buying pipe tobacco just to get the entry form to win a Throughbred.  She presented a dozen packs of tobacco to her father one day and her mother put a stop to the tobacco purchases.  Her mother could not get her a real horse but she got her a stuffed yellow cordury pony and took her to the library to pick out horse books to read.  Tara discovered a small farm  that had a few ponies and she would sneak out in the moonlight to go ride the ponies with just a twig for guiding.  No one ever found her out and the midnight pony rides have remained a secret until now!   At age 17 Tara got her first horse and has had horses of different breeds ever since.

Then in 1991 Tara's long time friends Jim and Nora Belcher introduced her to the Mountain Horses.  Tara purchased her first two Mountain Horse geldings from Jerry Dixon.  It was not long before Tara was hooked on the SMOOTH easy gait and the LAID-BACK dispositions of the Mountain Horses.  Jim and Nora then introduced Ed and Tara to the Clemons where Sam Clemons and his son Clifford finished hooking Ed into the breed!  Ed purchased one mare from the Belcher's and a few mares from the Clemons for Tara to start raising a herd of her own.

Ed and Tara are now the proud owners of 24 Mountain Horses with six foals due the spring of 2003.  The bloodlines of the Nicol's horses include Clemon's Tim, Clemon's Nick, Buddy Roe, Sewell's Sam, Johnson's Toby, Sewell"s Choco, Kilburn's Chocolate Sundown, Amigo Blue, Dixon's Smokin Coke, Ace, Yankee, Blaze's Morning Dancer, and Brinegar's Rebel.

Everyone is cordially invited to come and visit the Nicol's herd and get acquainted with the Mountain Horses at Honeysuckle Hill.

Smooth riding to all!   Ed and Tara Nicol...
